It’s only been weeks since the new year arrived. The gyms are still packed with people who promised themselves they’d finally lose weight this year. Chances are, that’s what they also said last year, and the year before that. Being fit is awesome, but the effort and sacrifice needed for losing weight plain flat-out sucks.
I think it all boils down to effort and reward. Humans need to see a reward whenever we make an effort or sacrifice. The thing is, it takes a while for people to see the reward (that is, losing weight) of their efforts. It sometimes takes weeks or even months before someone can see any progress in their weight loss – or even weight gain – efforts. And when a person doesn’t see an immediate reward to their efforts, they slide back into old patterns. They binge of cheesecake, load up on soda, and end up missing their workouts.
You could chalk that up to lack of discipline or motivation. I choose to look at it differently. Humans are wired to want an immediate reward. So why not use that to our advantage? In this blog post, I’ll be showing you a bunch of apps that let you make money losing weight. I found that these are great ways to give you a quick reward for your efforts. And that, in turn, makes it easier for you to stay on track for your ultimate goal.
Who would have thought you could make money by losing weight? But it’s true. Read on to learn about my recommended apps that let you make money by losing weight!
If you’re looking for an incentive to get out and walk more, Sweatcoin is the app for you. The app tracks the number of steps you take each day, and rewards you with points when you hit certain milestones. And when I said Sweatcoin is an incentive to get out, I really meant it. Sweatcoin only rewards you when you actually walk outside. The app tracks you via GPS, so it knows if you’re just walking on the treadmill in your living room while watching Netflix.
You can trade your points A slight downside to this is that you will have to get a paid membership if you want to earn beyond 5,000 steps per day. But it’s a small price to pay if your goal is greater fitness.
EarthMiles sort of works like SweatCoin. It tracks your progress, and rewards you accordingly. However, EarthMiles doesn’t just track the number of steps you take each day. You can also track all sorts of fitness metrics using EarthMiles. And that includes stuff like diet (did you eat more fruits and veggies than fast food?) and exercise. EarthMiles can even track your mindfulness and meditation practice! EarthMiles is a more integrated way to track your progress as far as fitness is concerned.
EarthMiles links to your fitness apps – it doesn’t actually do the tracking itself. It can connect with a wide variety of apps, including FitBit, Google Fit, RunKeeper, Nike+, Runtastic, and MapMyFitness. What EarthMiles does is give you the corresponding reward for your efforts. This has to be one of my favorite ways to make money by losing weight.
On the surface, it’s a simple way to earn money losing weight. But there’s really so much more to EarthMiles than that. What I love about EarthMiles is you can get rewarded for a wide variety of activities, whether it’s exercising, eating veggies, or getting enough sleep. It’s pretty dynamic, and that’s why it’s fun to use and earn rewards on.
Most of the apps listed here will incentivize you to lose weight. Healthy Wage also does this, albeit with a slight twist. Instead of just giving you money outright for hitting your fitness goals, you need to make a wager on Healthy Wage. When you start using the app, you will have the option of setting your own fitness goal – plus bet a certain amount of money. For example, you can attempt to lose 50 lbs. within a year. On top of that, you can bet a certain amount ranging from $20 up to a whopping $500 if you’re a high roller.
You’ll have to weigh yourself at the beginning and end of the challenge. When you hit your goal, you get the money you wagered back, plus extra rewards, which are given as cash via PayPal.
If you really need an extra push to smash your fitness goals, you might want to look into wagering some cash on Health Wage.
If you thought Healthy Wage was pretty hardcore, wait till you hear about Diet Bet. Healthy Wage offered you a bit of flexibility when it comes to setting your fitness goal, and the amount of money you’re willing to wager. There are no such options with Diet Bet. There are only two different kinds of health challenges here. The first is a challenge where you need to lose 4% of your current weight within four weeks. the second one is a challenge where you need to lose 10% of your total weight within six months.
If you hit these targets, you get your money back, as well as a bonus prize. The bonus will depend on the challenges and games you participate in, but it usually amounts to about 150% to a whopping 200% of your original wager.
From apps that make you bet money on your health goals, we go to a more traditional health app. Higi is more like SweatCoin and EarthMiles. The app is pretty simple. You earn points for reaching certain health goals. The only downside for me with this app is that it doesn’t offer cash payouts. Instead, you redeem your points for coupons and gift cards. Not really a deal-breaker, but it’ll depend on whether you prefer cash payouts. If you prefer gift cards – and I know there are a lot of reward app users who do – give Higi a shot. It’s totally legit!
